October 1, 20241. Advantages
Enhanced structural stability
More umbrella ribs can support the umbrella more delicately. For example, 10-rib or 12-rib umbrellas have denser ribs, which makes the umbrella more evenly stressed. In normal use, the shape of the umbrella can be better maintained, reducing local dents or deformation.
When encountering some breezy environments, umbrellas with more ribs can provide more stable support, making people feel that the umbrella is more solid and reliable.
Possible improvement in wind resistance
In theory, in strong winds, the more umbrella ribs there are, the more evenly the pressure of the wind on the umbrella surface is shared. For example, in a windy environment at the seaside, a multi-rib umbrella is relatively less likely to be blown over or damaged because more ribs can resist wind from different angles.
2. Disadvantages
Increase in cost and weight
As the number of ribs increases, the manufacturing cost will increase. Both the material cost and the manufacturing process cost will increase, which will make the umbrella more expensive.
More ribs will increase the weight of the umbrella. Heavier umbrellas are not convenient for daily carrying. For example, if you need to hold the umbrella for a long time, an overweight umbrella will make people feel tired.
Affects flexibility and portability
More umbrella ribs will make the folding structure of the umbrella more complicated. When opening and closing the umbrella, more steps may be required, which is not convenient enough.
Complex rib structure may cause the umbrella to be larger when stored, which is not conducive to carrying. For example, some long-handled umbrellas with more ribs are difficult to put into small bags.
